About this Job

The Appalachian Advertising Sales Account Executive should be a currently enrolled, full-time student who will be responsible for generating and executing advertising sales agreements for The Appalachian student news organization. They must be organized, adaptable, professional and charismatic. They must have a flexible schedule and the ability to communicate precisely in person, over the phone and through email.

Duties:

• Sells print ads, digital ads (web, newsletter and social media), out of home ads (newsstand posters), and more to generate income for the operating budget of The Appalachian

• Handles market research to identify potential new clients

• Cold contacts potential clients through phone, in person and email

• Develops relationships through meetings with clients, and successfully approaches each client through consultative selling

• Ensures advertising copy and art is received, then approved in a timely manner in order to meet production deadlines

• Works with client to ensure that invoices and agreements are signed and sent, paperwork is filed in appropriate folders on a shared Google Drive, and clients pay their invoices on time as agreed

• Attends regular meetings of advertising staff, and also meets individually with business office managers as scheduled

• Keeps track of progress through sales call sheets, and updates them weekly

• Must be able to take initiative and work independently, as well as work as part of a team and report to student managers (primary) and the adviser (secondary)

• Successfully works as part of a team to ensure sales goals at the monthly, semesterly and yearly basis are met or exceeded

• Must attend training workshops as assigned throughout the year, including but not limited to leadership training sessions, sales and marketing specific training sessions, The Appalachian’s Mountaineer Media Workshops, etc.

Note:

Extensive sales experience is not required. Upon being hired, introductory sales training will be provided.

Compensation:

Position will be compensated on a commission-only basis on their sales successfully landed, after the advertising client has paid the outstanding invoice.
