Project Engineer- Hydraulic Engineering

GENERAL FUNCTIONS:  
Build and use hydraulic models to analyze water distribution systems and wastewater collection systems. Work with stakeholders to develop recommendations for resolving existing operational and compliance issues, and to evaluate growth opportunities and acquisitions. Prepare short- and long-term comprehensive plans for water and wastewater systems. 
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
  • Prepares studies and reports to guide Company management in planning for future system needs and improvements.
  • Creates and/or utilizes hydraulic models to analyze distribution problems, simulate hydraulic conditions, and develop capital solution sets. Assist in setting requirements & participating in field calibration efforts as warranted. 
  • Supports system expansion and potential acquisition planning by evaluating system capacities and limitations.
  • Utilize hydraulic models to simulate water quality conditions throughout the distribution system to support resolution of water quality issues.
  • Manages hydraulic modeling software, including working with software vendor on updates and licensing.
  • Works closely with Engineering and Operations staff throughout Aqua footprint.
  • Assists in the preparation of cost estimates for Capital Budget planning.
  • Utilizes Company’s Financial Information System and Capital Budget System for project authorization and project tracking.
  • Prepares and presents testimony before state and local regulatory agencies, as requested.
  • Mentors and guides junior staff members
  • Participate in activities of various professional organizations and attend seminars and training courses when necessary to maintain technical competency.
  • Clearly articulates technical problems, design issues and potential solutions well, both in written and verbal form to members of the Aqua business, engineering and operating team and external organizations.
  • Performs other duties as requested.
SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL OR REGISTRATION QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must have Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering; Water/wastewater concentration preferred. Requires at least 5 years of hydraulic modeling experience. GIS interest and experience would be considered a plus.
  • Must have good computer skills including MS Office. Must possess strong verbal, written communication, analytical, and technical skills.
  • P.E. required along with ability to obtain reciprocity into other Aqua states.
