Senior Tradesworker

The purpose of this position is to maintain and repair City facilities by performing routine and special tasks to ensure the safety and well being of our building occupants. The Sr. Tradesworker troubleshoots and repairs all areas of the building including the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and HVAC systems.

This position will remain open until it is filled, with application review beginning on Monday, July 15, 2019.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

In this role, the Senior Tradesworker will be responsible for:
  • Installing, performing preventative maintenance and troubleshooting all HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems.
  • Evaluating and researching technical data to determine the cause and necessity of repair or replacement of various systems and devices.
  • Interpreting HVAC, plumbing and electrical diagrams.
  • Testing and tracing circuits and wiring.
  • Using various HVAC software programs to evaluate, monitor and control mechanical systems.
  • Providing preventive maintenance of emergency generators. Routinely starting and visually checking back-up generators to ensure readiness in the event of an emergency.

  • Performs maintenance of HVAC systems including changing filters,cleaning air handlers,vav boxes, fan coil units,coils etc.
  • Answering and evaluating customer and employee complaints to determine necessary repairs or services needed to correct the situation. Performing customer relations duties by handling issues promptly and courteously.
  • Operating and using computers for daily performance of skilled trade duties.

  • Operating trucks, construction equipment, power tools and various maintenance devices.
  • Processing work orders and purchasing parts and materials.
  • Performing locksmith duties.
  • Training subordinates in skills to assist and complete various installations and repairs.

Supplemental Functions:
  • This position may perform other similar duties as required.

Education/Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent with three (3) to five (5) years of related building repair and maintenance experience, working on large scale, complex projects; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

Licensing and Certifications:
  • Valid North Carolina Driver's License.

Preferred Requirements:
  • NC State Contractor's license is preferred.
  • NC State licensure in one or more of the trades: electrical, plumbing, HVAC or general contracting.
