Electrical Inspector

The City of Fayetteville, located in Cumberland County, NC is seeking to fill a vacancy for an Electrical Inspector in the Development Services Department. Qualified individuals should currently possess an Electrical Inspector certification OR have the ability to pre-qualify through the Department of Insurance as an Electrical Inspector by having experience working as a Licensed Contractor or under a Licensed Contractor.

SALARY INFORMATION
The starting salary for an Electrical Inspector is $36,571.

Under the City of Fayetteville's Career Track plan for Electrical Inspectors, a Level II Electrical Inspector is entitled to additional compensation of $7,500 bringing the salary to $44,071. A Level III Electrical Inspector would be entitled to additional compensation of $15,000 bringing the salary to $51,571. The successful candidate may obtain additional supplemental compensation of $3,750 for a Level II certification in a secondary trade (Building, Mechanical or Plumbing). Compensation is awarded AFTER the candidate has successfully obtained the certification(s).
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  1. Examine plans and specifications to perform inspections related to any new construction, additions, alterations, and any other type of construction that requires a permit; determine compliance with the provisions of the North Carolina Electrical Code, ordinances, and regulations.
  2. Review construction plans and specifications as it relates to the inspections of the permitted project to ensure compliance with applicable electrical codes and regulations.
  3. Provide information to the public, city staff, contractors, architects, engineers, and homeowners regarding electrical related issues; investigate complaints and recommend options based on the NC Electrical Code minimum standards as necessary to resolve complaints.
  4. Issue stop works, corrections and occupancy documents that address various violations; maintain background records for possible legal actions.
  5. Answer questions and provide information to the public, city staff, contractors, architects, engineers, builders and homeowners regarding NC Electrical Code and related issues; explain and interpret requirements and minimum standards.
  6. Confer with other inspectors and City staff to ensure consistent code and ordinance enforcement.
  7. Enter inspection results in the permitting system as soon as possible from the time the inspection has been completed so homeowners, contractors, engineers, and others are aware of any violation of the NC Electrical Code and ordinances or the approval of the inspection.
  8. Prepare inspection(s) results for daily inspections.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience:
A probationary Level I electrical inspection certificate with two years of experience inspecting electrical installations, or be a licensed electrical contractor, or two years of electrical installation or inspection experience while working under a licensed electrical contractor.

Training:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in the electrical trade.

LICENSING AND CERTIFICATIONS:

Required:
A North Carolina Electrical Inspection Level I, II or III certification within one year of employment. Possession of an appropriate valid driver's license and ability to maintain insurability.

Preferred:
A North Carolina Inspection Level I, II or III certification in a secondary trade.
If selected, proof of certifications or pre-qualification from the DOI will be required before a firm job offer is extended.
